Tab Sweep, Non-WWDC Edition: June 2024
Another roundup of links from the last week or so. The amount of information from Apple’s developer conference is overwhelming my tabs, but I wanted to get these out first.
- Light Phone 3, covered here on The Verge, looks like a fascinating device I might legitimately be interested in. A OLED display but fewer than 4 inches, cameras that may legitimately be decent, USB-C — it knocks on the door of usability in the way, say, the Boox Palma does not. (To be clear, though, I am curious about the Palma too.)
- Also from The Verge, Jabra has new Elite-series earbuds where they perform some genius innovation in making the case double as a Bluetooth transmitter.
- From The Times, Sony is buying Alamo Drafthouse (gift link). This gets the movie chain out from under private equity control, which is hopeful as it’s been one of the better moviegoing experiences I’ve had.
- In a couple of “are politicians actually listening” moments: On Gothamist, Gov. Kathy Hochul considers banning masks on the subway; and from NY1, “Mayor Adams defends Gov. Hochul on congestion pricing move”
- Speaking of congestion pricing, also from Gothamist: “Watch Gov. Hochul debate herself when it comes to implementing congestion pricing”
